A warm welcome to our first blog post! In this blog, we will continuously provide updates and insights about the games we create, but also write about other fun trivia, nostalgia, and anecdotes that relate to the world of board games.
Viktor and Andreas, who founded Murdoc Games are both childhood friends who grew up playing various games together. For us, board games mean more than just playing; they are a way to bring people together, a social and interactive activity that also stimulates problem-solving and strategic thinking. One of our goals is for people who play our games to go home feeling like they’ve had a fun and uplifting evening full of challenges, and that they’ve delved into an exciting world they want to return to. Our ambition is to let that mindset run through our products and content in the future. You can read more about us, our background, and the company here.
Our friends and family always gives us great support, helping with invaluable advice and feedback (thank you guys!)
We’re always on the look out for new and exciting games!
We are currently in the process of creating our first game called ‘Rumian.’ It has been a long and fun journey, and we still have a lot to do before it’s finished. It all started in the spring of 2020 with a simple idea, and when Rumian is released in the summer of 2024, we will have worked on the project for over 4 years. The idea was to create a game that we were enthusiastic about and that we felt was missing on the market. We are very happy that we are getting closer to the point where we can launch and share our game with you.
You might be wondering what the game Rumian is about. Right now, we can’t reveal the entire game in detail, but in broad strokes, Rumian is a captivating adventure board game with a mystic, medieval theme. In short, players compete against each other to prove who is most suitable to steer this newly discovered land to growth and success through exploration and development. The most skilled player will be crowned the leader of Rumian, steering the nation into a bright future!
In Rumian, you will explore nature and gather resources that you need to use in a creative way. For example, you will be able to craft goods and trade in the market, but also use them to build various buildings. You will also be able to embark on action-packed quests, where you perform various exciting tasks for rewards. The demand for resources and the lack of space will inevitably lead to rivalry within the land and battles against both players and bandits. All players’ collective actions throughout the game will contribute to the country’s development, making each game unique.
When it comes to the theme and mechanics of Rumian, we wanted to create a fast-paced medieval adventure game in an exciting world that players can explore and where all participants compete against each other with a lot of interaction. We wanted players to have many different choices to choose from that propel them forward, but simultaneously making the game easy to learn and play. To create an intriguing world, atmospheric game cards and a large, beautiful game board that players explore have been important ingredients. We both like dice (who doesn’t like to roll dice?) and have also let it be a feature that moves the game forward. We will continue to share more details about the theme, intro, and other aspects in the coming months before launch.
We plan to release Rumian in the early summer of 2024, and of course, there will also be an opportunity to pre-order the game through our website. Once the game is released, our next major goal will be to participate in one of the world’s largest game conventions in Germany, ‘Essen Spiel,’ in October 2024. At Essen, all major game companies, as well as smaller actors like us, gather along with thousands of board game enthusiasts. Therefore, it is a unique opportunity to showcase Rumian to industry professionals and reach out to and sell the game on-site to festival visitors. Click here to learn more about Spiel Essen.
But even now, our work begins to try to reach out to people and generate traction towards Rumian. The first step has been taken by creating our website and social media channels, as well as this blog. From now on, we will release posts on Facebook, Instagram, and the blog here on the website continuously leading up to the launch. We are also developing a newsletter, so please keep an eye out for that too.
We truly value our followers and also want to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to all the fantastic people who have already helped us along the way by playtesting Rumian, giving advice, and providing encouragement! We are incredibly grateful for your help. Now, we are facing an exciting time where the final adjustments will be made before we produce the first 1000 copies of the game!
If you want to help and be a part of the project, join our Facebook group and follow us on Instagram – that help is invaluable to us. We want to give a big thank you again for taking the time to visit our website and read our first blog post.
Take care, and please feel free to write to us if there’s anything you’re curious about or want to ask.
Kind regards,
Andreas & Viktor
